The Suffolk Tree Warden Network (STWN) is a unique countywide community. These pages are here to provide information for our highly valued volunteer Tree Wardens and to help you decide if becoming a Tree Warden is right for you – we hope it is!
Together STWN are volunteer Tree Wardens (TWs) who champion trees and hedgerows in Suffolk’s towns, villages and rural parishes apart from Ipswich which has its own network but with whom we work closely. Our umbrella organisation is The Tree Council.
We are delighted that we are now a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and our charity number is 1205573. This new status will allow to access a greatly increased funding pool and develop the Network.
It’s tree planting time so this has to be the focus but we will be revamping this website including adding the new constitution and other documents very soon. Please don’t hesitate to contact a member of the Leadership Team if you have comments or concerns or wish to explore potential avenues with us.
STWN purpose: To promote for public benefit in the county of Suffolk the conservation, protection and improvement of the environment through planting, care, nurture and cultivation of new trees and hedgerows and safeguarding of the existing treescape, and by these actions, to contribute to Suffolk’s mitigation of the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution.
Over 160,000 Trees Planted
Since 2018, we have worked with a wide range of collaborative partners, including The Woodland Trust, Suffolk County Council and the Suffolk Traditional Orchard Project, to enable the planting of over 160,000 trees, including hedgerow and fruit trees, across Suffolk.

Here in Suffolk we plant and protect trees and hedgerows, empower others to do the same, and act as a point of focus for community tree-related projects. You might have seen our gazebo at various shows throughout the year.
Thanks to generous funding from Suffolk County Council we grow trees locally in our community Tree Nurseries.
We are always looking to grow the network with new Tree Wardens and form new partnerships with other organisations and businesses at local, county and national levels. We raise awareness of trees in Suffolk’s diverse rural and urban landscapes.
